The Lions jumped out to a 22-10 lead at the start of the game. Bryan led the rest of the half, but Montreat cut into the lead as the two teams went into the locker room at halftime with the score 34-33. The Lions opened the second half on a 7-0 run, but the Cavaliers countered that with a 10-1 run to take the lead. The teams swapped the lead back and forth a few times for the remaining time. Bryan found themselves down 66-61 with just over four minutes remaining. The Lions scored the next five points to tie the game with 1:48 remaining. Montreat immediately came down and hit a 3-pointer to take 69-66 lead. The two teams then swapped missed field goals. Bryan had the ball with 29 seconds left, but turned the ball over. The Lions fouled and sent the Cavaliers to the free throw line for a one-and-one. Montreat missed the first and Bryan grabbed the rebound. The Lions came down the floor and got off a 3-point attempt but were unable to knock it down.
The Lions shot 41.7% from the floor for the game, while the Cavaliers shot 53.2%. Bryan shot 33.3% (6/18) from beyond the 3-point arc, but Montreat hit 55% (11/20). The Lions recorded 27 rebounds, 8 less than their opponent. Bryan only had 11 turnovers while forcing 22 for Montreat.
Lavonte Henderson was the game's leading scorer with 17 points. Tim Fortenberry hit five 3-pointers for 15 points. Dion Fair and Rob Riley added 11 and 9 points, respectively. They both also had a team high 6 rebounds. Fair had a game high 5 steals.The Lions are now 5-11 overall and 0-2 in the AAC. They play again on Thursday against conference opponent Virginia Intermont College in Bristol, Va. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30pm ET.
