The Bryan College Women's Basketball Team traveled to Bristol, Va., on Thursday to take on the Lady Cobras of Virginia Intermont College. The Lady Lions lost by a final score of 63-59.
The Lady Cobras jumped out to a 10-0 lead and led by as much as 11 points in the first half. However, the Lady Lions did not give up and cut the deficit down to three points at halftime, 34-31. Back into the game going into the second half, the two teams swapped the lead back and forth for the remaining time. Bryan's largest lead of the game was seven points, 57-50, with just over six minutes left to play. However, VI went on an 8-0 run to take a one-point lead. The Lady Lions scored the next basket to take a 59-58 lead, but the Lady Cobras rattled off the last five points of the game.
Bryan shot 37.5% from the floor for the game, while VI shot 37.3% for the game. The Lady Lions outrebounded their opponents 43-38. However, they turned the ball over 24 times.
Anna Thomas was the game's leading scoring with 22 points. Sara Barnett and Sarah Newton added 10 points apiece. Morgan Burnette led the team in rebounding with 8 boards.
The Lady Lions are now 10-5 overall and 1-3 in conference play. They play again on Saturday at home in a conference game against Milligan College. Tipoff is scheduled for 2:00pm ET.
