The Cobras scored a run in the first inning on Friday. The Lions scored two runs in the bottom of the inning. Bryan then added four runs in the fourth, one in the fifth, and four more in the sixth. The Lions held the Cobras scoreless in the top of the seventh to bring the game to an end early.
Shane Clawson led the offense with three runs batted in and four hits. Josh Harris finished the game with two RBIs and one hit. Steven Brown had one RBI and three hits for the game. Doug Stroup, Billy Veal, and Zach Vick added one RBI and one hit apiece. Kevin Layne recorded one RBI.
Tanner Brown started on the mound and earned the win to improve to 7-1 on the season. He pitched all seven innings, striking out six batters and only giving up one run and five hits.
VI scored first in game one on Saturday as they crossed the plate once in the third inning. The Lions tied the game in the bottom of the inning. Bryan then scored two runs in the fifth inning, including a solo home run by Kevin Layne. DeWayne Boyd hit a solo home run in the sixth inning to give the Lions one more run.
Kevin Layne led the offense with one run batted in and two hits. DeWayne Boyd had one RBI and one hit off his solo home run. Shane Clawson finished with one RBI. Tyler Latham, Doug Stroup, and Billy Veal recorded one hit each.
Jason Ridenhour started on the mound and recorded the win, now 6-2 for the season. He struck out six batters while giving up only one run and seven hits in six innings of work. Adam Sanders came in and pitched the seventh inning, earning his thirteenth save of the year. He struck out three of the five batters that he faced.
The Cobras jumped out in front by scoring one run in the third inning and another run in the fourth. The Lions turned around and scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead and the eventual win.
Shane Clawson started on the mound and earned the win, his third straight. He pitched the first five innings, giving up two runs and seven hits. Kenny Knudsen pitched the sixth inning, holding the Cobras scoreless and hitless. Adam Sanders pitched the seventh inning. He held VI hitless and scoreless to earn his fourteenth win of the season.The Lions are now 29-11 overall and 11-4 in the AAC. They play again on Tuesday at home against Southern Polytechnic State University. The doubleheader is scheduled to start at 4:00pm ET.
