The Bryan College men's basketball team hosted the Montreat Cavaliers on Tuesday night. The Cavaliers hit a three to start the game, but the Lions then went on a 12-1 run to take the lead. Montreat scored the next seven to cut the lead down to 12-11. Bryan responded with a 16-3 to get the lead up to double digits and to take control of the game. They led by as many as 16 points in the first half before going into the break leading 34-21. The Lions maintained a double digit lead for the majority of the second half, their largest lead equaling 16 and the closest the Cavaliers got was 7 points. Bryan won by a final score of 66-53.
The Lions shot 34.9% from the floor for the game, while the Cavaliers shot 36.2%. Bryan's defense held their opponent to a season-best 53 points. The Lions outrebounded the Cavaliers by one and won the turnover battle by nine.
Rob Riley led the Lions in scoring with 18 points. He also had a game high 7 steals, and he grabbed 9 rebounds. Carrin Nash and Derrick Walker added 10 points apiece. Walker also had 9 rebounds and 4 steals. Brandon Cole finished with 9 points and a game high 12 rebounds. Rafael Tyler also had 9 points to go along with his team high 4 assists.
The Lions are now 10-12 overall and 6-4 in the AAC. They play again on Thursday in a conference game at Virginia Intermont College. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30pm ET.
