The Bryan College baseball team hosted the Tennessee Temple University Crusaders on Tuesday night. The two teams played in what turned out to be a nine-inning slugfest. The Lions scored two runs in the first and second innings and then five more in the third to jump out to a big lead. The Crusaders got two in the fourth, but the Lions added three more in the bottom of the inning. Temple recorded five runs in the fifth. Both teams crossed the plate once in the seventh inning. Bryan notched their final two runs in the eighth inning, winning by a final score of 15-8.
Kevin Layne led the offense with four RBIs, four hits, and two runs scored. Grant Zawadzki finished with two RBIs, two hits, and one run scored. Chris Jefferies and Blake Johnson each added two RBIs, one hit, and two runs scored. Cody Rhinehart recorded one RBI, three hits, and two runs scored. Andrew Smith had one RBI, two hits, and two runs scored.
Josh Harris started on the mound and earned the win. He gave up seven runs, four of them earned, and seven hits in five innings of work. Kevin Carr pitched the next two innings and began the eighth inning. He gave up one unearned run and only one hit, while striking out three batters. Isaac Meyers came in and got all three outs in the eighth inning and the first out in the ninth inning. He held the opponent hitless and scoreless. Dylan Culver came in and struck out the two batters he faced to close the game.
The Lions are now 7-3 on the season. They play four games this weekend against Taylor University. The doubleheader on Friday will start at 3:00pm ET, and the doubleheader on Saturday is set for 1:00pm ET.
