The Appalachian Athletic Conference recently released the 2012-2013 men's basketball regular-season award winners. Brandon Cole, Rob Riley, and Caleb Parsons received honors. Cole received the highest award, while Riley received two different honors. As a team, the Lions were named the AAC Co-Champions of Character.
Cole was not only selected to the AAC All-Freshman Team but was chosen as the conferences Co-Freshman of the Year. The 6'2" forward from Crossville, Tenn., was a fix in the starting lineup from day one. Cole averaged 13.43 points per game and 8.29 rebounds per game, 3rd best in the AAC. He shot an incredible 50.9% from the floor for the season. He led the team in total points (376), total rebounds (232), and double-doubles (4). Cole had a season high in points in the win over Indiana University East with 27, and had a season high in rebounds with 15 in the win at Hiwassee College.
Riley was voted on to the AAC All-Defensive Team and the AAC All-Conference Second Team. He is a 6'1" senior guard from Philadelphia, Pa. Riley led the team in points per game with 16.20, was third on the team in rebounds per game with 6.00, was third on the team in assists per game with 1.93, and led the team in steals per game with 2.20. He has a season high 27 points in the win at Montreat College, a season high 15 rebounds in the win at St. Andrews University, and a season high 7 steals in the game at Montreat.
Parsons was named to the Academic All-Conference Team. In order to qualify for the Academic Team the student-athlete must be at least a sophomore in academic standing and have a minimum grade point average of 3.25.
