The Bryan College men's basketball team competed against the Skyhawks of Point University in the semifinals of the AAC Tournament. The Lions won by a final score of 57-51. They move on to the Championship on Saturday.
The score was close the entire game. In the first half, the two teams traded the lead twice and had five ties. Bryan led by as many as seven points, and Point led by as many as five points. The two teams went into halftime with the score knotted at 28. The Skyhawks scored the first basket of the second half and built their lead up to as many as seven points. The Lions took their first lead of the half at 50-48 with 2:43 remaining on a three-point basket. Bryan was able to hold on to the lead as they knocked down seven consecutive free throws down the stretch to win the game.
The Lions shot 30.9% from the floor for the game, while the Skyhawks shot 32.1%. Bryan lost the rebounding battle but won the turnover battle.
Rob Riley led the Lions in scoring with 14 points. He also had 6 rebounds. Derrick Walker finished with another double-double, scoring 12 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. He also had a team high 5 assists. Robert Troino added 11 points and 3 steals. Brandon Cole recorded 7 points and 6 rebounds.
The Lions are now 15-15 overall. They play again Saturday at 4:00pm ET verse Tennessee Wesleyan College in the AAC Tournament Championship. The AAC Tournament is being held at the MeadowView Marriott Conference Resort & Convention Center in Kingsport, Tenn.
