The Bryan College baseball team traveled to Bristol, Va., to take on the Cobras of Virginia Intermont College on Monday. The Lions lost the 7-inning game 6-4 and then lost the 9-inning game 5-3. The Lions are now 11-7 overall and 0-3 in the AAC.
In the first game, VI scored four runs in the third inning and two in the fourth to take a big lead. Kevin Layne got the offense started in the 6th inning with a solo homerun. The Lions crossed the plate three times for the inning. Bryan scored one more in the seventh inning.
Grant Zawadzki led the offense in the first game with two hits, one RBI, and one run scored. Tyler Latham and Kevin Layne finished with one RBI, one hit, and one run scored apiece. Jess Cartner and Andrew Smith added one hit each.
Tristan Speak started on the mound in game one and received the loss. He gave up six runs, four earned, and seven hits in four innings of work. Dylan Culver pitched the final two innings. He gave up only one hit and no runs.
In the second game, the Cobras scored two runs in the first, one in the third, and two in the fifth inning to once again jump out to a big lead. The Lions got two runs back in the eighth and one more in the ninth.
Joey Vega started game two on the mound for the Lions and received the loss. He gave up five runs and nine hits in five innings of work. Zach Duncan pitched the sixth inning and gave up not hits or runs. LJ Rowden pitched the final two innings and gave up just one hit and no runs.
The Lions play again on Wednesday at home against Indiana Wesleyan University. The single 9-inning game is scheduled to start at 6:00pm ET.
