The Bryan College baseball team hosted the Tennessee Wesleyan Bulldogs over the weekend for a three game conference series. The Lions lost the nine-inning game 8-4 and then lost both games on Saturday 5-1. The Lions are now 14-13 overall and 3-6 in the AAC.
On Friday night, Tennessee Wesleyan scored five runs in their first at bat. Bryan got two back in the bottom of the inning off of a two-run homerun by Grant Zawadzki. The Bulldogs added two more in the second inning and one more in the fifth. The Lions crossed the plate twice in the eighth inning.
The Lions had 13 hits for the game, the same as their opponent. Grant Zawadzki finished the game with two RBIs and one run scored off his home run. Joey Underwood recorded two hits, one RBI, and one run scored. Tyler Latham had a team high three hits. Cody Rhinehart added two hits.
Kenny Knudsen started on the mound for the Lions and received the loss. He gave up eight runs, seven of them earned, and 10 hits in five innings of work. Knudsen struck out six batters. Isaac Meyers came in and pitched the sixth and seventh innings. He gave up two hits but no runs. Kevin Carr pitched the final two innings and gave up just one hit.
In the first game on Saturday, the Bulldogs got on the board first with a run in the second inning. They added three more in the sixth inning and then another in the seventh. The Lions scored their one and only run in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Grant Zawadzki finished with one RBI and one hit. Five other Lions added one hit apiece.
Tristan Speak pitched the first five and one-third innings. He gave up four runs and four hits while striking out five batters. Speak received the loss. Joey Vega finished the sixth inning. He gave up one hit and no runs and struck out one batter. Dylan Culver pitched the final inning. He gave up one run and one hit and struck out one batter.
In the second game, TWC scored two runs in the second inning to take the lead. Bryan scored a run in the third off of a solo homerun by Blake Johnson. The Bulldogs added three more in the fifth.
Blake Johnson had the team's only hit, RBI, and run scored off of his homerun.
LJ Rowden was the starting pitcher for the Lions and received the loss. He gave up five runs, four earned, and nine hits in five innings of work. Rowden struck out four batters. Joey Vega pitched the final two innings and gave up just two hits.
The Lions play again on Tuesday at Lee University. The single 9-inning game is scheduled to start at 6:00pm ET.
