The Bryan College baseball team traveled to Reinhardt University to take on the Eagles in a three game series. The Lions lost the opening game 5-4 in extra innings. They bounced back and won the second game of the doubleheader 8-0. On Saturday, Bryan lost by a final score of 17-5. The Lions are now 16-15 on the season and 4-8 in the AAC.
In game one on Friday, the Lions got on the scoreboard first when Chris Jeffries hit a solo homerun in the third inning. Bryan added two more in the sixth inning. In their final at-bat, the Eagles scored three runs to tie the score and send the game to extra innings. Reinhardt hit a walk-off homerun in the eighth inning to get the win.
Chris Jeffries finished the game with one hit, one RBI, and one run scored off of his homerun. Jess Cartner and Andrew Smith had one hit and one RBI apiece. Tyler Latham had a team high two hits. Grant Zawadzki added one hit. Zach Hensley and Colton Roberts scored a run each.
Kenny Knudsen started on the mound for the Lions and pitched the first six and one-third innings. He gave up three runs, one earned, and five hits while striking out six batters. Joey Vega finished out the seventh inning and pitched two-thirds of an inning in the eighth. He gave up one run and one hit.
In game two on Friday, the Lions got on the scoreboard early and often. They scored one run in the first inning, two in the second, and one in the third. Blake Johnson hit a solo homerun in the fifth to add to the lead. BC scored three runs in the sixth, including a two-run homerun by Tyler Latham, to conclude their scoring.
Grant Zawadzki had three hits, two RBIs, and scored two runs. Tyler Latham finished with a game high three RBIs with his one hit and one runs scored. Jess Cartner and Blake Johnson recorded two hits, one RBI, and one run scored apiece. Joey Underwood added two hits and one RBI. Cody Rhinehart tallied three hits and one run scored.
LJ Rowden pitched all seven innings for Bryan and received the win. He held the opponent scoreless and gave up just five hits.
In the single 9-inning game on Saturday, the Lions struck first by scoring three runs in the third inning. The Eagles crossed the plate six times in the fourth inning to take the lead. Bryan got one run back in the fifth inning off of a solo homerun by Grant Zawadzki. Reinhardt added nine runs to their lead in the fifth. The Lions touched home plate just one more time in the seventh inning. The Eagles finished their scoring with two more in the bottom of the inning.
Blake Johnson led the offense with two hits and two RBIs. Grant Zawadzki finished with two hits, one RBI, and two runs scored. Joey Underwood recorded two RBIs, one hit, and one run scored. Chris Jeffries and Tyler Latham added one hit apiece.
Hunter Tipton started on the mound for the Lions and received the loss. He gave up five runs and nine hits in three and two-thirds innings of work. John Cain pitched the next two-thirds innings. He gave up five runs, three earned, and two hits. Dylan Culver finished out the fifth inning. He gave up five runs, three earned, and four hits. Isaac Meyers pitched the sixth inning. He gave up just one hit and no runs. Zach Duncan threw the seventh inning and gave up two runs and four hits while striking out two batters. Kevin Carr pitched the eighth inning and was able to hold the opponent scoreless and hitless.
The Lions play again this weekend in a three-game conference series at home verse Union College. The single 9-inning game is scheduled to start at 6:00pm ET on Friday, and then the doubleheader is scheduled to start at 1:00pm ET on Saturday.
