The Bryan College baseball team traveled down to Marietta, Ga., to take on the Hornets of Southern Polytechnic State University. The Lions lost game one of the doubleheader 4-0, and lost game two 13-3. They are now 23-18 on the season.
In game one of the doubleheader, the Hornets got on the board first as they scored one run in their first at-bat. They added three more in the third to get the final score.
John Cain pitched the entire game for Bryan and received the loss. He gave up four runs and six hits while striking out five batters.
In game two, the Lions scored two runs in their first at-bat. The Hornets scored a run in the bottom of the first and one in the second to tie the game. Both teams crossed the plate once in the third inning. Southern Poly scored two runs in the fourth to take the lead. They added five more in the fifth and three in the sixth.
Bryan had eight pitchers see time on the mound. Josh Harris started received the loss. He gave up four runs, three earned, and five hits in three and one-third innings of work. Kevin Carr pitched the next one-third of an inning. He gave up one run. Dylan Culver finished out the fourth inning and gave up no hits or runs. Joey Vega began the fifth inning and pitched two-thirds of an inning. He gave up five runs and four hits. Hunter Tipton finished the fifth inning and was not credited with any runs. Brannon Shortt began the sixth inning and threw for a third of an inning. He gave up three runs. Zach Duncan pitched the next third of an inning and gave up one hit and no runs. Isaac Meyers came in and got the one batter he faced to ground out.
The Lions play again this weekend in a home conference series against St. Andrews University. The single nine-inning game is scheduled for 6:00pm ET on Friday night, and the doubleheader is scheduled to start at 1:00pm ET on Saturday.
