The Bryan College baseball team hosted St. Andrews University over the weekend. The Lions lost the nine-inning game on Friday night 11-7. Then on Saturday, Bryan won game one 5-1 and lost game two 8-6. The Lions are now 24-20 on the season and 7-11 in the AAC.
On Friday night, Grant Zawadzki hit a solo homerun in the first inning to kick start the offense for Bryan. St. Andrews tied the game in the third inning, and then scored two in the fourth inning. The Lions scored four runs in the fifth inning and two more, including a solo homerun by Cody Rhinehart, in the sixth. The Knights crossed the plate five times in the seventh to take the lead and then added three more in the eighth to get the final score.
Joey Underwood had a team high two RBIs. Rhinehart and Zawadzki finished the game with one hit and one RBI apiece off of their solo homeruns. Josh Harris recorded one RBI. Jess Cartner, Chris Jeffries, Tyler Latham, and Kevin Layne had two apiece.
Kenny Knudsen started on the mound and received the loss. He gave up eight runs, six earned, and nine hits in six and one-third innings of work. Joey Vega pitched the next one and one-third innings. He gave up three unearned runs and six hits. Dylan Culver finished out the rest of the game. He gave up just one hit and struck out three batters.
In game one of the doubleheader, the Knights scored one run in their first at-bat. The Lions topped that by scoring two runs in their first at-bat. Bryan added three runs to their lead in the third inning to conclude the scoring.
Josh Harris and Cody Rhinehart led the offense with two hits and one RBI apiece. Chris Jeffries and Andrew Smith finished with one hit and one RBI. Kevin Layne recorded two hits. Joey Underwood added one hit.
Tristan Speak pitched the entire game for Bryan and earned the win. He gave up just one run and seven hits while striking out six batters.
In game two, the Knights jumped out to a lead as they scored two runs in the second inning, fourth inning, and fifth inning. The Lions scored six runs, including a grand slam by Chris Jeffries, in the fifth inning to tie the score. St. Andrews scored two runs in the sixth inning to get the win.
Chris Jeffries led the offense with two hits and four RBIs. Blake Johnson and Andrew Smith recorded one RBI each. Josh Harris tallied two hits. Lucas Jolley, Kevin Layne, and Joey Underwood had one hit apiece.
LJ Rowden started on the mound and pitched the first four and one-third innings. He gave up six runs and five hits while striking out six batters. Adam Sanders finished the fifth inning, giving up zero runs and two hits. Kevin Carr pitched the sixth inning and received the loss. He gave up two runs and three hits. Dylan Culver pitched the seventh inning and gave up one hit.
The Lions play again on Tuesday at home verse Lee University. The Flames are currently ranked No. 1 in the nation. The first pitch is scheduled to be thrown at 6:00pm ET.
