The Bryan College baseball team traveled to Milligan College over the weekend to compete in a conference series. The Lions lost the nine-inning game 6-5 on Friday. On Saturday, they won game one 6-1 but lost game two 4-3. Bryan is now 25-23 on the season and 8-13 in the AAC.
In the nine-inning game, the Lions scored two runs in the first inning. The Buffaloes scored three runs in the bottom of the inning. Milligan added a run in the second, fourth, and fifth innings. Bryan crossed the plate once in the seventh, eighth, and ninth innings to fall just one run shy of extending the game.
Josh Harris, Kevin Layne, and Hunter Tipton finished with one run and one RBI apiece. Chris Jeffries had a game high three hits and two runs scored. Cody Rhinehart and Grant Zawadzki recorded one hit and one run scored. Joey Underwood added one hit.
LJ Rowden started on the mound for the Lions and received the loss. He gave up six runs and nine hits in five innings of work. Joey Vega pitched the next three innings and gave up just one hit while striking out five batters.
In game one of the doubleheader, the Lions scored three runs in the second and two runs in the fourth to take control of the game. The Buffaloes scored their run in the sixth inning. Bryan added one more run in the seventh inning.
Zach Hensley led the offense with two hits, two RBIs, and two runs scored. Chris Jeffries finished with two hits, one RBI, and one run scored. Josh Harris notched one run and one RBI. Grant Zawadzki added one RBI. Blake Johnson, Cody Rhinehart, Hunter Tipton, and Joey Underwood had one hit apiece. Rhinehart scored two runs, and Johnson scored one.
Tristan Speak pitched all seven innings and earned the win. He gave up just one run and five hits. Speak struck out eight batters.
In game two, the Lions scored one run in the fourth inning and two runs in the fifth inning. However, the Buffaloes scored four runs in their final at-bat to get the win.
Chris Jeffries and Kevin Layne recorded one hit and one RBI apiece. Andrew Smith had a team high two hits and one run scored. Joey Underwood had one RBI. Grant Zawadzki added one hit and one run scored.
The Lions play again today, Monday, verse Tennessee Temple University at AT&T Field in Chattanooga. The game is scheduled to start at 2:00pm ET.
