The Bryan College baseball team competed against Union College in the AAC Tournament on Thursday morning. It was the second time that the two teams faced each other in the tournament. The first time the Bulldogs pulled off the win, but this time the Lions won the game by a final score of 9-7. Bryan is now 31-25 overall.
Union took an early lead as they scored a run in the first inning and two more in the second inning. Bryan tied the game with three runs in the third inning. The Lions took the lead in the fourth inning with two runs. The Bulldogs crossed the plate three times in the sixth to take back over. Bryan scored four runs in the seventh to take the lead for good. Union scored one more in the eighth inning to conclude the scoring.
Kevin Layne finished the game with two RBIs, one hit, and one run scored. Blake Johnson also had two RBIs to go with one hit. Joey Underwood tallied two hits, one RBI, and one run scored. Chris Jeffries notched one hit, one RBI, and one run scored. Josh Harris added one RBI. Grant Zawadzki had a team high three hits and scored two runs. Cody Rhinehart and Andrew Smith recorded two hits apiece. Rhinehart scored a run. Zach Hensley had one hit and one run scored. Tyler Carroll scored twice as a pinch runner.
LJ Rowden started on the mound for the Lions. He pitched the first five innings and began the sixth inning. Rowden gave up six runs, five earned, and seven hits. Kevin Carr came in and gave up a hit. Joey Vega then took over to get the three outs in the sixth inning and pitch the rest of the game, earning the win. He gave up one run and just three hits.
The Lions will play again today at 6:00pm ET against No. 6 Virginia Intermont.
