The Bryan College men's basketball team hosted Southern Wesleyan University, an NAIA Division I program, in the first game of the Bryan College Classic. The Lions jumped out to a 20-6 lead. The Warriors cut the lead down to one point, but Bryan closed the half on a 7-1 run to take a 31-24 lead into the break. The Lions built their lead up to 9 points but were unable to hold it. The Warriors took the lead for good with 11:35 left on the clock. They led by as many as 10 points. Bryan cut the lead down to two points, 58-56, but Southern Wesleyan hit their free throws down the stretch to win 62-56. The Bryan men are now 3-8 on the season.
Brandon Cole led the Lions with 32 points and 18 rebounds, setting a new career high in rebounds. Robert Troino finished with 14 points, including 4 three-pointers, and 4 rebounds. Alan Holt recorded 6 rebounds.
Bryan shot 34.4% from the floor for the game, while Southern Wesleyan shot 37.7%. Bryan lost the battle on the boards by 4. Both teams had 12 turnovers for the game.
The Lions play again today, Saturday, at home against Southern Polytechnic State University. Tipoff is scheduled for 4:00pm ET.
