The Bryan College men's basketball team hosted Southern Polytechnic State University, a NAIA Division I program, in the second game of the Bryan College Classic. The Lions scored the final three points of the game to send it into overtime. Bryan outscored Southern Poly 12-8 in overtime to win the game 84-80. The Lions are now 4-8 on the season.
The two teams swapped the lead three times and knotted the score twice in the first half. The Hornets led 38-31 at the break. In the second half, there were four lead changes and five ties. Down three, the Lions hit a basket to cut it to one with only one minute to play. Then with 19 seconds remaining, the Lions hit one of two free throws to tie the game at 72. The Hornets were able to get off a three point attempt but it did not fall, sending the game into overtime. In the overtime, Bryan jumped out on top 80-74 and was able to hold on for the win.
Brandon Cole led the Lions with 27 points and 17 rebounds, his third double-double of the week. Hunter Chastain scored 17 points. Robert Troino finished with 16 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals. Terrell Maryland and Logan Sharp added 6 points apiece.
Bryan shot 36.2% from the floor for the game, while Southern Poly shot 46.3%. The Lions won the battle on the boards by 4 and the turnover battle by 1. Bryan outscored Southern Poly 27-14 from the free throw line.
The Lions play again Friday at Hiwassee College. Tipoff will be announced once it has been finalized.
