The Bryan College baseball team hosted Toccoa Falls College to kick off their season this evening. The Eagles have won the NCCAA Division II National Championship the past three seasons. The Lions scored their first run in the third inning. They added another run in the sixth inning and in the seventh inning. The offense added two more in the eighth inning. The Eagles scored their only run of the game in their final at-bat. The Lions won by a final score of 5-1.
Grant Zawadzki led the offense with three hits and three runs batted in. Justin Mohardt hit a solo homerun in the 6th inning. Hunter Tipton had the team's other RBI. Tyler Latham finished with two hits. Cody Rhinehart recorded one hit and one run scored. Preston King added one hit. Brookes Jones, Joey Underwood, and Crandon Wallace crossed the plate once apiece.
LJ Rowden started on the mound and earned the win. He gave up five hits and struck out four batters in six innings of work. Kenny Knudsen pitched the final three innings, giving up one run and one hit. He struck out four batters.
The Lions are now 1-0 on the season. They play again on tomorrow at home against Toccoa Falls College to complete the series. The doubleheader is scheduled to start at 1:00pm ET.
