The Bryan College baseball team played a doubleheader today at home against University of Rio Grande. The Lions won game one 4-1, but then they lost game two 4-2. The baseball team is now 2-3 on the season.
In game one, Rio took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. The Lions tied the game in the second inning off of a solo homerun by Cody Rhinehart. The Bryan offense then scored three runs in the sixth inning to get the 4-1 win.
Cody Rhinehart had one RBI, one hit, and one run scored off of his solo homerun. Preston King and Justin Morhardt finished with one RBI and one hit apiece. Grant Zawadzki had the team's other RBI. Kevin Roberts and Joey Underwood recorded two hits and one run scored apiece. John Cain crossed the plate once.
LJ Rowden pitched all seven innings for the Lions and earned the win, now 2-0 on the season. He gave up one run and six hits. Rowden struck out five batters.
In game two, Rio took a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Bryan scored two runs in the sixth. The RedStorm scored another run in the seventh inning to win 4-2.
Joey Underwood started on the mound and received the loss. He gave up three runs, two earned, and seven hits in five innings of work. Isaac Meyers pitched the final two innings, giving up one run and two hits.
The Lions play again tomorrow at home against Shawnee State University. The doubleheader is scheduled to start at 3:30pm ET.
