The Bryan College baseball team played a doubleheader today at home against Shawnee State University. The Lions lost game one 9-4, then lost game two 4-2. The baseball team is now 2-5 on the season.
In game one, Shawnee State scored two runs in the first inning and five runs in the second inning to take a commanding lead early. The Lions scored two runs in the third inning. The Bears responded with two more in the fourth. Bryan scored two runs in the sixth inning off of a two-run homerun by Justin Morhardt. The Lions lost by a final score of 9-4.
Justin Morhardt led the offense with two runs batted in, two hits, and one runs scored. Grant Zawadzki finished with 2 RBIs and one hit. Hunter Tipton tallied two hits. Cody Rhinehart added one hit. Tyler Latham, Kevin Roberts, and Joey Underwood scored a run apiece.
John Cain pitched all seven innings for the Lions and received the loss. He gave up nine runs, four earned, and eight hits. Cain struck out five batters.
In game two, the Lions scored a run in the first and third innings to jump out on top. However, the Bears scored two runs in the fifth inning and two runs in the sixth to come back and win 4-2.
Justin Morhardt led the offense again with one RBI and two hits. Tyler Latham recorded one RBI and one hit. Joey Underwood finished with one hit and one run scored. Grant Zawadzki scored the team's other run.
Hunter Lamoureux started on the mound for Bryan. He gave up two runs and two hits. Kenny Knudsen came in with the fifth inning under way and pitched the rest of the game. He gave up two runs, zero earned, and two hits.
The Lions play again on Tuesday at home against Tennessee Temple University. The game is scheduled to start at 5:00pm ET.
