The Bryan College baseball team played a doubleheader today at Georgia Gwinnett College. The Lions lost the first game 10-2 but bounced back to win game two 8-6. The baseball team is now 3-7 on the season.
In game one, GGC scored one run in the first inning, one run in the second inning, and then five runs in the third inning to take a big lead early. Bryan scored their first run in the fourth inning. The Grizzlies added two more runs in the bottom of the inning. Georgia Gwinnett scored their final run in the sixth inning. The Lions added another run in the seventh.
Cody Rhinehart led the offense with one run batted in and one hit. Kevin Roberts and Grant Zawadzki finished with one hit and one run scored apiece. Justin Morhardt and Joey Underwood had one hit each.
John Cain started on the mound for Bryan and received the loss. He gave up seven runs, six earned, and eight hits in three innings pitched. Kyle Paulson pitched the fourth inning. He gave up two runs and two hits. Ian Andrews threw the fifth inning and began the sixth inning. He gave up one unearned run and one hit. Brannon Shortt came in to close the sixth inning, getting all three outs to record an inning of work. He was able to get out the three batters that he faced.
In game two, the Lions struck first by scoring two runs in the second inning. The Grizzlies scored one run in the bottom of the inning. Bryan added another run in the third inning. Georgia Gwinnett crossed the plate twice in the fourth inning, twice in the fifth, and once in the sixth. The Lions scored four runs in the seventh inning to take the lead and added an insurance run in the ninth.
Tyler Latham led the offense with two RBIs, three hits, and one run scored. Preston King and Grant Zawadzki finished with one RBI, two hits, and one run scored each. Cody Rhinehart notched one RBI and two hits. Ethan Lents added one RBI, one hit, and one run scored. Joey Underwood had the team's other RBI. Crandon Wallace added two hits and one run scored. Kevin Roberts had one hit and two runs scored. Garrison Price crossed the plate once.
Tristan Speak started on the mound for the Lions. He gave up three runs and four hits in four innings of work. Hunter Lamoureux threw the next two innings. He gave up three runs, two earned, and two hits. Kenny Knudsen pitched the final three innings and earned the win. He gave up just one hit.
The Lions play again on Tuesday at home against Hiwassee College. The game is scheduled to start at 5:00pm ET.
