The Bryan College men's basketball team hosted Truett-McConnell College today. The game went back and forth for all forty minutes as there were fourteen lead changes. Truett led by as many as five points in the first half, while Bryan led by as many as nine points. The Lions took a 39-35 lead into intermission. Neither team led by more than five points in the second half. Bryan scored a basket with a minute and a half remaining to take a three point lead. Truett scored a basket with about one minute remaining to get within a point. Then they hit a three-pointer to take a two point lead with 10.3 seconds remaining. The Lions came down the floor and ran a play through Brandon Cole. Cole was able to drive to basket, make the layup to tie the game, and get fouled. He went to the free throw line and buried the shot to give Bryan a one point lead with 3.3 seconds left in the game. The Lions' defense did not even allow the Bears to get a shot attempt off before the buzzer. Bryan won by a final score of 70-69 and are now 14-15 overall and 10-8 in the AAC.
Brandon Cole led the Lions with 33 points and 10 rebounds for his 7th double-double in a row and 20th on the season. Robert Troino finished with 23 points, including 6 three-pointers, and 6 rebounds. He also had a game-high 3 steals. Derrick Walker recorded a game-high 13 rebounds and 8 points. Caleb Parsons tallied a team-high 4 assists.
The Lions shot 41.5% from the floor, while the Bears shot 40.9% for the game. Bryan won the battle on the boards 44-31 but lost the turnover battle by 10.
The Lions play again on Thursday in the first round of the AAC Tournament. The tournament is being held at the MeadowView Marriott Conference Resort & Convention Center in Kingsport, Tenn. The opponent and start time will announced once it has been finalized.
