The Bryan College baseball team played a doubleheader at St. Andrews University on Saturday. The Lions lost game one 14-6 and game two 7-6. The baseball team is now 16-12 overall and 6-3 in the AAC.
In game one, both teams scored a run in the first inning. The Lions scored a run in the top of the second, but the Knights scored five runs in the bottom of the inning. Bryan scored two runs in the third and one run in the fourth. St. Andrews crossed the plate three times in the fourth inning, three in the fifth, and two in the sixth. The Lions scored their final run in the seventh inning.
Preston King led the offense with two runs batted in and two hits. Cody Rhinehart, Kevin Roberts, and Grant Zawadzki recorded one RBI and two hits apiece. Zawadzki scored two runs, and Rhinehart scored one. Tyler Latham, Justin Morhardt, Hunter Tipton, and Crandon Wallace finished with one hit each. Tipton and Wallace crossed the plate once. John Cain also scored a run.
Tristan Speak started on the mound and received the loss. He gave up six runs, four earned, and seven hits in two innings of work. John Cain threw the next three innings. He gave up six runs, four earned, and eight hits. Kyle Paulson pitched the sixth inning. He gave up two unearned runs and one hit.
In game two, the Lions scored two runs in their first at-bat, but then they gave up three runs in the bottom of the inning. Bryan scored two more runs in the third to take the lead, but St. Andrews tied the game in the bottom of the inning. Again the Lions scored two runs in the fifth. The Knights scored a run in the bottom of the inning. Then St. Andrews scored two runs in the seventh inning to get the win.
Justin Morhardt led the offense with four runs batted in, two hits, and one run scored. He hit a two-run homerun in the third inning. Tyler Latham and Grant Zawadzki finished with one RBI and two hits apiece. Kevin Roberts recorded one hit and three runs hit. Cody Rhinehart and Joey Underwood tallied one hit and one run scored each. Crandon Wallace added one hit.
Hunter Lamoureux started on the mound for the Lions and pitched two and one-third innings. He gave up four runs and seven hits. He struck out four batters. Ian Andrews recorded an inning of work. He did not give up a hit or a run. Brannon Short threw for an inning and a third. He gave up one run and two hits. Kenny Knudsen pitched the final one and two-thirds of an inning and received the loss. He gave up two runs and four hits.
The Lions play again on Wednesday at home verse Lee University. The single nine-inning game is scheduled to start at 6:00pm ET.
