The Bryan College baseball team hosted Milligan College in a doubleheader on Saturday. The Lions won game one 7-5 but then lost game two 8-3. The baseball team is now 24-17 overall and 10-8 in the AAC.
In game one, the Lions struck first as Tyler Latham hit a three-run homerun in the first inning. The Buffaloes scored two runs in the second inning. Bryan crossed the plate twice in the third inning. Milligan scored three runs in the fifth inning to tie the game. However, the Lions scored two in the bottom of the inning to take back control of the game and get the win.
Tyler Latham led the offense with three runs batted in, one hit, and one run scored. Cody Rhinehart finished with one RBI, two hits, and one run scored. Kevin Roberts recorded one RBI, one hit, and two runs scored. Kelvin McMiller and Hunter Tipton had one RBI and one hit apiece. Preston King tallied two hits and one run scored. Grant Zawadzki logged one hit and one run scored. Joey Underwood added one hit. Crandon Wallace scored one run.
Hunter Tipton started on the mound for the Lions. He gave up five runs, four earned, and seven hits in four and one-third innings of work. Jared Breazeale came in and faced one batter, who reached on an error. John Cain came in and finished the fifth inning. He didn't give up a hit or a run and received the win. Brannon Short pitched the sixth inning and didn't give up a hit. Kenny Knudsen pitched the seventh inning and did not give up a hit, earning the save.
In game two, the Lions scored a run in the third inning to get on the board first. The Buffaloes exploded in the fourth inning, scoring seven runs. They added another run in the seventh inning. Bryan scored two runs in their final at-bat but still fell short.
Grant Zawadzki led the offense with two RBIs and one hit. Tyler Latham had the teams only other RBI. Joey Underwood finished with two hits and two runs scored. Crandon Wallace recorded one hit and one run scored. Preston King, Kelvin McMiller, and Hunter Tipton had one hit each.
Tristan Speak was the starting pitcher and received the loss. He gave up seven runs, three earned, and three hits in three and one-third innings of work. Jared Breazeale pitched the next three and two-thirds innings. He gave up one run and two hits.
The Lions play again on Tuesday at Lindsey Wilson College. The single nine-inning game is scheduled to start at 5:00pm ET.
