The Bryan College baseball team hosted Virginia Intermont College this evening. The Lions got out to a big lead early as they scored one run in the first inning and six in the second, including back-to-back solo homeruns by Justin Morhardt and Kelvin McMiller. The Cobras scored two runs in the fourth inning and then took the lead in the fifth inning with seven runs. Bryan scored their final run in the sixth inning. VI added one run in the eighth inning and four in the ninth. The Lions lost by a final score of 14-8. The baseball team is now 27-24 overall and 12-13 in the AAC.
Grant Zawadzki led the offense with three runs batted in, three hits, and one run scored. Cody Rhinehart finished with two RBIs and one hit. Justin Morhardt recorded one RBI, three hits, and one run scored. Kelvin McMiller logged one RBI, two hits, and two runs scored. Tyler Latham ended the game with one RBI and one hit. Joey Underwood tallied two hits and one run scored. Preston King added one hit and one run scored. John Cain and Kevin Roberts scored one run apiece.
LJ Rowden started on the mound for the Lions. He gave up four runs and ten hits in four innings of work. Jared Breazeale pitched the next third of an inning and received the loss. He gave up five runs and three hits. John Cain threw the rest of the fifth inning and the sixth inning. He gave up just one hit. Brannon Shortt pitched the next third of an inning. He did not give up a hit but walked two the three batters that he faced. Hunter Tipton finished the seventh and threw the eighth inning. He gave up one run and two hits. Ian Andrews pitched the ninth inning. He gave up four runs, one earned, and three hits.
The Lions play again tomorrow at home verse Virginia Intermont College. The doubleheader is scheduled to start at 1:00pm ET.
