The Bryan College baseball team hosted a doubleheader against Virginia Intermont College on Saturday. The Lions won game one 4-2 and then won game two 22-8. The baseball team is now 29-24 overall and 14-13 in the AAC.
In game one, the Lions scored two runs in their first at-bat. They added another run in the second inning. The Cobras crossed the plate once in the fourth inning and once in the sixth inning for their two runs. Bryan scored another run in the sixth inning off of a solo homerun by Kelvin McMiller.
Kelvin McMiller led the offense with one run batted in, three hits, and two runs scored. Kevin Roberts finished with one RBI, one hit, and one run scored. Cody Rhinehart recorded one RBI and one hit. Tyler Latham logged one hit and one run scored. Justin Morhardt added one hit.
Chad Burrows pitched all seven innings for the Lions and earned the win. He gave up just two hits and two runs while striking out five batters.
In game two, the Lions' offense exploded. VI struck first with a run in their first at bat. Bryan followed that with nine runs in the bottom of the inning, including a grand slam by Tyler Latham. The Coabras scored three runs in the second inning. The Lions scored one in the bottom of the inning. VI scored three again in the fourth inning. Bryan scored eight run in the bottom of the fourth, including a two-run homerun by Tyler Latham. The Cobras crossed the plate once in the fifth inning to conclude their scoring. The Lions added four more runs in the fifth.
Tyler Latham led the offense with six runs batted in, three hits, and two runs scored. Justin Morhardt recorded three RBIs, two hits, and two runs scored. Joey Underwood finished with two RBIs, four hits, and three runs scored. Grant Zawadzki logged two RBIs, three hits, and five runs scored. Kevin Roberts and Crandon Wallace tallied two RBIs and two hits apiece. Roberts crossed home plate three times, while Wallace crossed twice. Preston King added two RBIs, one hit, and two runs scored. Kelvin McMiller and Cody Rhinehart ended the game with one RBI and two hits each. McMiller scored two runs. Garrison Price had one hit. John Cain scored one run.
Tristan Speak started on the mound and received the win. He gave up seven runs, three earned, and six hits in three and two-thirds innings of work. Jared Breazeale pitched the next one and one-third innings. He gave up one run and one hit. Brannon Short threw the sixth inning. He gave up two hits. Isaac Meyers pitched the seventh inning and struck out one of the three batters he faced.
The Lions play again Wednesday at Cumberland University. The single nine-inning game is scheduled to start at 4:00pm ET.
