The Appalachian Athletic Conference released the bracket for the 2014 AAC Baseball Tournament and Bryan is the No. 5 seed. The Lions finished the regular-season 29-25 overall and 14-13 in the AAC.
The tournament begins tomorrow at Hunter Wright Stadium in Kingsport, Tenn. The tournament format consists of eight teams in two pools of four. In pool play, it is a double-elimination within pool play. The two pool winners will then meet in a winner-take-all championship game to determine the 2014 Appalachian Athletic Conference Tournament champion.
Seeds No. 1, 4, 5 and 8 will be in Pool A, while Seeds No. 2, 3, 6 and 7 will be in Pool B. Here are the complete seedings for the tournament:
1. Tennessee Wesleyan (30-20-1 overall, 19-8 AAC)
2. Reinhardt (33-22 overall, 18-9 AAC)
3. Union (34-18 overall, 17-10 AAC)
4. St. Andrews (26-21 overall, 14-13 AAC)
5. Bryan (29-25 overall, 14-13 AAC)
6. Point (28-23 overall, 14-13 AAC)
7. Milligan (22-25 overall, 12-15 AAC)
8. Virginia Intermont (20-28 overall, 11-16 AAC)
Note: St. Andrews, Bryan and Point all finished with identical 14-13 conference records to tie for the No. 4 seed. The tie-breaker system is based on how each team did against the top-seeded team. Point was swept by Tennessee Wesleyan, so it is the No. 6 seed. Both St. Andrews and Bryan won 2-of-3 games from Tennessee Wesleyan, but since St. Andrews took 2-of-3 games from Bryan, it is the No. 4 seed and Bryan the No. 5 seed.
Play begins tomorrow morning with No. 5 Bryan taking on No. 4 St. Andrews at 10 a.m., which will be followed by No. 3 Union facing No. 6 Point at 1 p.m. At 4 p.m., No. 2 Reinhardt will play No. 7 Milligan, and the day will conclude with No. 1 Tennessee Wesleyan meeting up with No. 8 Virginia Intermont.
