The Bryan College baseball team competed against Brewton-Parker College this morning in the NAIA Baseball National Championship Opening Round. The Lions are the No. 4 seed in the Kingsport Bracket, while the Barons are the No. 2 seed. Bryan won by a final score of 4-3. The baseball team is now 34-27 on the season. They play again tonight at 6:00pm against Culver-Stockton.
The Barons scored a run in their first at-bat to take the early lead. The Lions tied the game in the third inning. Bryan then crossed the plate three times in the eighth to control. Brewton-Parker scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth to close the gap, but the Lions were able to hold them off and earn the win.
Justin Morhardt, Cody Rhinehart, and Joey Underwood finished with one run batted in and two hits each. Preston King and Crandon Wallace recorded two hits and one run scored apiece. Grant Zawadzki tallied two hits. Kevin Roberts logged one hit and one run scored. Tyler Latham added one hit. Brookes Jones scored one run.
LJ Rowden started on the mound for the Lions and earned the win. He gave up three runs, one earned, and seven hits in eight and two-thirds innings of work. Kenny Knudsen came in to get the final out and earned the save.
