Columbia, Ky – Sophomore Nick Scully (SO/Carelton, MI) led the Bryan Lions in their first event of the 2015-16 season firing 70-73, bringing it to 143 for both days. This gave Scully a finish of 14th in the highly competitive Lindsey Wilson Blue Raider Classic, with 4 of the 15 participating teams having been ranked in the top 25 in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). Tom Durbin (JR/Wildnes Chesire, England) was one stroke back at 71-73= 144.
The Bryan Lions fielded two teams in the tournament with freshmen. Paul Houk finished one stroke behind Durbin at 72-73 = 145. The next two top scores were sophomore Clayton Myers (SO/Warren County, Tenn.) at 73-74=147 and junior transfer Carson Griffin 76-71= 147. Scully had the low score for Bryan on Day 1 with a 70, and Carson Griffin led the Lions on Day 2 with a 71.
The Bryan Lions 'A' team fired a 292-295 to finish 9th of 15 teams. 11th ranked NAIA Dalton State (Ga.) won the event with a ten under par 281-277.
Dalton State's Sean Elliott was able to walk away with the honors of the individual tournament champion after taking on Mount Vernon Nazarene's (Ohio) Charlie Phillips in a sudden-death playoff. Phillips and Elliott earned All-Tournament honors after both shooting 132's.
Other scores for Bryan were Chandler Cassell 153, who recorded his first ever hole-in-one on Thursday, Bryce Pickens (SO) 154, Colby Roach (SR/Jasper, Tenn.) at 157, and Hunter Bruce (JR/Ducktown, Tenn.) at 165.
The Bryan Lions men will continue play next on Sept. 28-29 at the Reinhardt Invitational, located at Callahan Links Golf Course in Waleska, Ga.
