Berea, Ky. – The Bryan Lion's Cross Country teams are coming off a strong start to the season after a sprint to a 2nd place Men's finish and 4th place Women's finish in the Dalton State College Twilight Classic (Ga.) that took place Sept. 4th. The Cross Country Teams kept the momentum going as they competed Saturday morning after traveling to Berea, Kentucky where they raced in the Berea College Cross Country Invitational.
The Lady Lions were led by Jessica Stockton (SR/Front Royal, Va.), who took 10th individually. She paced the team to an impressive fifth-place finish (out of 11 NAIA and NCAA schools). In their first full 8K of the year Tyler Boone (JR/Murfreesboro, Tenn.) and Grif Rutherford led the men's team to a third-place finish. Boone took fifth, while Rutherford finished in seventh. Both the men and women's teams beat Union College (Ky.), and our men took a one-point victory over Tennessee Wesleyan.
After a very successful race for the Bryan Lion's, Bryan's Head Cross Country and Track Coach, Josh Bradley added, "Our runners like this course. It's definitely not the easiest that we race but it's different, with a knee-deep creek crossing and dirt trails, it's terrain that we are used to. I am proud of both of our teams, although we have a long way to go. We need to learn how to be more aggressive late but that will get easier with faster, more progressive workouts. I'm excited to see what we can do in a month."
The Lions next race will be in Louisville, Kentucky on October 3rd, the Greater Louisville Classic, which will be taking place at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park, Ky.
