The Lions traveled to UVA-Wise to play a 3-game series last Thursday and Friday. The Lions fell in all 3 games.
   
In Thursday's game the Lions struck first getting a run in the 1st and the 3rd inning. Unfortunately, after that the Lions bats went cold and the Cavs' bats heated up as they scored 12 runs through the next 5 innings. Will Newman and Brantley Hattrich each had 2 of Bryan's 6 hits. Newman had both RBI's, one of which was on a solo homerun in the 1st inning. Tyler Brown was the starting and losing pitcher for Bryan. He worked 5 innings and gave up 6 runs on 8 hits. He walked 2 but struck out 7. Ben Young came in and pitched 1 & 1/3 innings, giving up 6 runs on 5 hits.

In the first game on Friday, the Lions were shutout. Will Newman and Drew Brown each had 2 of Bryan's 5 hits. Mark Barnwell pitched all 4 innings for the Lions. He gave up 10 runs on 8 hits.

The Lions fell just short in the second game on Friday. Down 5 runs in the last inning, they scored 2 runs but were unable to do any more. Brantley Hattrich was the only Lion to have multiple hits as he had 3 of the team's 11 hits. Zach Breazeale was the starting and losing pitcher for Bryan. He pitched 4 & 2/3 innings giving up 9 runs on 11 hits. He walked 2, but struck out 5 batters. Brantley Hattrich came in and pitched the last 1 & 1/3 innings giving up no runs, no hits, and striking out 2.

The Lions are now 0-11 in the conference and 4-23 overall. They play again on Monday in a double header at Southern Polytechnic State University. The first game is scheduled to start at 1:00 PM ET.
