Knoxville, Tenn. - The 2015 Appalachian Athletic Conference Cross Country Championship was held this past Saturday at the Victor Ashe Park in Knoxville, Tennessee. Several days of rain soaked the course and offered tough, muddy conditions for the runners. The meet started with the men's race, which covered a distance of 8 kilometers (≈5 miles). Bryan's top two runners, Tyler Boone (JR/Murfreesboro, Tenn.) and Griffith Rutherford (SO/Thomasville, Ga.), got off to fast starts and kept the pace high throughout the race. Both men took home All-Conference honors and qualified for the NAIA Championship race, with Rutherford taking third with a time of 25:27.88 and Boone taking first overall and the course record with a time of 25:02.32.
The women's race covered 5 kilometers (3.1 miles) and the Lady Lions were led by seniors Jessica Stockton (SR/Front Royal, Va.) and Sarah White (SR/Cleveland, Ohio). Stockton finished the race in 12th (20:44.96) and also qualified for the NAIA Championship race. The women took fifth place as a team.

After a very successful day for the Lions, Head Bryan College Cross Country and Track Coach, Josh Bradley said, "I'm pleased with the three that qualified for Nationals. I told Grif and Tyler that they could go 1-2 and that really got them fired up. They were leading at the mile and I was afraid they went out too hard but they both fought to keep their pace and finished first and third. I was the happiest for Jessica. It's her senior season and she has battled injury for two years, and for her to qualify for Nationals in what could have been her last cross country race was awesome."
