Montevallo, Ala. – The Bryan Lions Outdoor Track and Field Team traveled to the University of Montevallo this weekend to race in the Falcon Classic Invitational, which hosted 13 teams from Alabama, Tennessee, Florida, Georgia and Mississippi and most of which were NCAA Div. II programs.
The Lions long-distance crew got Bryan off to a good start on the day. Spearheading the group were Jessica Stockton (SR/Front Royal, Va.) and Tyler Boone (JR/Murfreesboro, Tenn.), both of whom took top-ten finishes with solid season openers in the 5k. Stoc
Next on the track was the lone Lion runner in the 1,500m, Hannah Schroeder (JR/Sebring, Fla.), who also took a top-ten spot and a big personal-best at 5:08.07. Shroeder managed the impressive feat after taking all of indoor season off for injury.
Despite being in a uniform for only a few months, James Eliezer is already making the most of it by setting school records in both the 100m (11.26) and 200m (22.43) on the same day.
The Lions 800m runners posted two of our best finishes in the competition. Grif Rutherford edged out a Montevallo runner to take second place in a near personal best time of 1:56.87, while Sarah White (SR/Cleveland, Ohio) sprinted away from the competition with a big kick late in the race to secure a victory in the women's 800m.
Head Cross Country and Track and Field Coach, Josh Bradley, on the weekend:
"Overall we had a good day. Our training is coming along just like we planned and most everyone is starting to see that. I think some of our guys were frustrated during indoor season and they are starting to see their hard work pay off. I'm excited to see Hannah back on the track and in great form. James had a solid day but has the potential to go even faster so watch out for him to take those school records to higher levels. Both Grif and Sarah had great finishes today but just like James, look for them to run even faster in the coming months."
