Sevierville, Tenn. – Following an exciting first day for the Bryan Lions at the Appalachian Athletic Conference Track & Field Championships where the women's 4x800 team captured the win in convincing fashion with a new AAC and Bryan record, junior Tyler Boone (JR/Murfreesboro, Tenn.) aided with another first place finish for the Lions in the final day of the event in the long-distance 5k race.
The 2016 AAC men's 5k was off to a strategic start when Boone took the lead and decided to push the cadence. After a strong effort 800 meters in, he only had one Milligan College (Tenn.) runner willing to keep the pace. The battle between the two lasted until the last lap when Boone put in a final surge and never looked back, taking the win and sealing an individual conference championship for himself and the Lions. He crossed the line in 15:36.
Union College (Ky.) compiled seven conference championships to win the women's team award Saturday at Sevier County High School, as two Bulldogs capped the victory in the final event. Tennessee Wesleyan's men's track and field marked their third straight AAC Championship with only two individual championships and two relays.
