Dayton, Tenn. – With a 36-16 overall record and 18-9 record in Appalachian Athletic Conference play, 21st ranked Bryan Lions Baseball team heads into the 2016 AAC Baseball Tournament as the No. 2 seed, coming in behind the 5th ranked team in the nation and top-seeded Tennessee Wesleyan Bulldogs (39-11, 23-4 AAC).
For the 10th consecutive year, the conference tourney action is being held at Hunter Wright Stadium in Kingsport, Tenn.
Teams hit the diamond on Monday morning, May 9th and will battle through May 11th with the championship game set for May 12th.
Here are the seeds for the tournament:
1. Tennessee Wesleyan (39-11, 23-4 AAC)
2. Bryan (36-16, 18-9 AAC)
3. Point (27-27, 17-10 AAC)
4. Union (27-25, 14-13 AAC)
5. St. Andrews (29-23, 13-14 AAC)
6. Truett-McConnell (29-25, 13-14 AAC)
7. Milligan (21-29, 10-17 AAC)
8. Bluefield (27-28, 10-17 AAC)
Note: St. Andrews is the No. 5 seed over Truett-McConnell by winning the season series between the two teams. Milligan, Bluefield and Reinhardt all tied for the the No. 7 seed, but Milligan won the season series 2-1 vs. both Bluefield and Reinhardt, and Bluefield won the series against Reinhardt 2-1 to claim the No. 8 seed.
The tournament format consists of eight teams in two pools of four. In pool play, it is a double-elimination within pool play. The two pool winners will then meet in a winner-take-all championship game to determine the 2016 Appalachian Athletic Conference Tournament champion.
Seeds No. 1, 4, 5, and 8 will be in Pool A, while Seeds No. 2, 3, 6, and 7 will be in Pool B.
First day schedule:
Monday, May 9
Game 1 - No. 4 Union (27-25) vs. No. 5 St. Andrews (29-23), 9 a.m.
Game 2 - No. 3 Point (27-27) vs. No. 6 Truett-McConnell (29-25), 12 p.m.
Game 3 - No. 2 Bryan (36-16) vs. No. 7 Milligan (21-29), 4 p.m.
Game 4 - No. 1 Tennessee Wesleyan (39-11) vs. No. 8 Bluefield (27-28), 7 p.m.
Earlier in the year when Bryan and Milligan met (Apr. 1-2), the Lions swept the Buffs in the three-game series 9-2, 6-3, and 8-1.
