Helen, Ga. – The Bryan Lions Men's Golf team made a big charge on Day 2 with Lucas Coffelt (JR/Jasper, Tenn.), Nick Scully (JR/Carelton, Mich.), and Tom Durbin (SR/Wildnes Chesire, England) finishing at par or better on the front nine, but they were not able to maintain the momentum and overtake tournament winner and reigning Appalachian Athletic Conference champion, Reinhardt College (Ga.) at the 2016 Truett McConnell University Georgia Mountain Invitational.
Scully was the only men's player to finish under par on Day 2, firing a 71 to end the tournament in 2nd place at 148 on the difficult Innsbruck Country Club course. Scully recorded one of the only two rounds that were shot under par in the entire tournament.
Durbin's notable performance earned him All-Tournament team honors along with Scully. The Lions finished Day 2 tied for the second best round of the day at 307, which was four strokes ahead of Reinhardt on the second day but 12 strokes behind for a two-day total.
Bryan Head Coach Peter Bollant said, "We are proud to have two men finish on the All-Tournament team, and especially proud of Nick Scully who finished 2nd in the invite registering one of only two sub par rounds through both days of competition. The course was extremely difficult with almost no bail out shot available on any of the 18 holes. Innsbruck required extremely accurate shot making and putting. Some of the greens had putts breaking 8-10 feet, which required very precise reads and added pressure. We were right in it overall till the last three holes when we surrendered several strokes, but it was a good start to the 2016 campaign by having two Lions earn All-Tourney team recognition. Our round 2 score that topped Reinhardt gives us drive heading into the Reinhardt Invitational two weeks from now."
