Columbia, S.C. – Bryan's Wray Fuller (JR/Jackson, Tenn.) scored a season-high 23 points and was followed by Reagan Johnson (JR/Mt. Juliet, Tenn.) with 22 points, Brice Cusick (JR/Jefferson City, Tenn.) with 16 points, Tyler Yoder (JR/Crossville, Tenn.) with 10 points, and Oteriah Lee (JR/Knoxville, Tenn.) who recorded eight points and a team-high four assists in Wednesday night's Appalachian Athletic Conference loss to the Yellow Jackets of Allen University (S.C.). The Lions trailed by 14 points at halftime and managed to battle back for the lead eight minutes into the second half, bringing the score to 52-50. Unfortunately Bryan was unable to grow their advantage and surrendered the lead back to Allen for a two-minute stretch with five minutes remaining in the game. At 3:01 the Lions retook advantage and didn't allow the Yellow Jackets in front until the final 9 seconds of the contest when Bryan fouled Allen on a three-point shot and were called for a game-deciding technical foul, which gave way to four consecutive foul shots that sealed an 87-86 win for the home team.
After falling behind in the opening half, the Lions clawed their way back in the game with the turning point coming at the 13-minute mark when Lee hit a two-pointer and both Yoder and Fuller each scored from inside. Lee continued the rally with a successful three-point play. Fuller tallied another two-point shot, and Johnson sank the go-ahead basket from three-point territory to finish the 14-0 run, establishing a 52-50 edge for Bryan.
Madison McKamey (JR/Clinton, Tenn.) nailed two free throws with two minutes left in the game to put the Lions up by six at 78-72, but the Yellow Jackets scored seven points and held Bryan to one, which cut the margin to one point with one minute on the clock. Fuller handled the pressure and hit a basket and made five shots from the foul line that kept the Lions with a three-point lead in the final seconds. In an attempt to add difficulty to a last second shot by Allen, Bryan was charged with the foul and followed up by a technical, allowing the Yellow Jackets the opportunity to make four free throws to win the game 87-86.
The victory for Allen improved their overall record to 4-5 and 2-2 in conference play, while Bryan dropped to 1-9 overall and stays winless in the AAC at 0-4.
The Lions are back in action on the road Saturday, Dec. 3, when they travel to fellow AAC school Bluefield College (Va.) and go head-to-head versus the Rams with tipoff scheduled for 4pm.
