Dayton, Tenn. – The league announced Sunday the brackets for the Appalachian Athletic Conference basketball tournament, and the No. 6 seed Bryan College Lady Lions get a matchup with 11th seeded Columbia College (S.C.) on Wednesday, Feb. 22, at 3:30pm to begin opening round play. In their first meeting this season, the Lions topped the Koalas 86-45 and then followed earlier this month with another 76-65 routing of their conference foe. Bryan looks to make it three-in-a-row this year against Columbia, which would set up a battle with No. 3 seed Point University (Ga.) on Thursday at 5:15. The Lions split with the Skyhawks this season, upsetting them at home 65-37.
Bryan began the season with an overall record of 2-6 and conference record of 1-4, but they've clawed their way to 14-14 overall and 12-10 in AAC play to end the regular-season.
The tournament is being played in conjunction with the men's tournament, and both are being held at the MeadowView Marriott Conference Resort & Convention Center in Kingsport, Tenn.
Milligan College (Tenn.) and Reinhardt University (Ga.) are the 2017 AAC regular-season co-champions, but Milligan is the No. 1 seed for the tournament and receives the automatic berth to the NAIA National Championship Tournament.
Milligan and Reinhardt both ended the season with identical 18-4 conference records. However, Milligan swept the season series, thus giving it the top seed and the automatic bid to nationals.
