Dayton, Tenn. – Bryan College's Brad Spooner earned Tennessee Sports Writers Association Men's Soccer Player of the Week accolades for his efforts in contests from August 21-27. This is the first of the weekly awards for the 2017-18 academic year sponsored by the TSWA.
Spooner posted three goals in a pair of victories for the Lions. The Norwich, England, native tallied a pair of goals in a 5-1 victory over Bob Jones University, the first unassisted in the 33rd minute and then again in the 65th minute. The sophomore midfielder added an insurance score in the 87th minute in a 3-1 win versus 12th-ranked Thomas University.
This is the first time Spooner has been recognized by TSWA and is only the second Bryan College Men's Soccer player to earn the distinction. TSWA's Player of the Week honors includes players from all colleges and universities in the state of Tennessee, making it a very difficult title to attain. Spooner is the eighth Lion to be named a TSWA Player of the Week.
The Lions are currently 2-1 on the year, having already faced a pair of top-15 opponents. Challenging play continues for the 11th-ranked Bryan team as they host 16th-ranked Campbellsville University on Saturday, Sept. 2 with kickoff slated for 7pm.
