London, Ky. – The Bryan College Women's Golf team teed off their fall campaign this week at the University of Cumberland's Bill Sergent Invitational, which included a strong field of not only top-25 NAIA teams but also NCAA Div. II schools that competed at the challenging Crooked Creek Country Club in London, Ky.
Spearheading the Lady Lions was Krista Reinhardt (JR/Tampa, Fla.) who was one of only three golfers to post 70's on both days. Reinhardt shot a 79 on the opening day and bettered her score with a 78 on day two for a 157 total, earning 3rd place in a field of 53 players. Her efforts were good enough to land a spot on the All-Tournament Team.
Freshman Taylor Williams (FR) improved seven strokes on the last day of the event, registering a 92 on day one and followed with an 85 for a two-day total of 177, while Sarah Falcon (SR/San Angelo, Tex.) upgraded her first day of 95 to an 84 on day two, compiling a 179. Williams battled her way to a 36th-place finish, and Falcon trailed at 39th.
"Several ladies really stepped up their play on the second day," explained Bryan Head Coach, Peter Bollant. "We had a trio at 85 or under in spite of playing on a very difficult course with weather conditions impacting the scores. It is great to see Reinhardt competing at the top of her game and starting out the fall with a notable finish. It was also great to see Williams play so well, especially making a statement on day two."
The speed of the greens posed some issues for some of the Lions, but Bollant went on to say, "With some hard work on our short games, we could regularly be shooting in the 70's. We are also looking for a strong fourth score, which is key to making us very competitive in the Appalachian Athletic Conference."
Up next for Bryan is the SCAD Atlanta Fall Invitational, taking place at The Oaks Golf Course in Covington, Ga. on Sept. 18-19.
