The Bryan College men's cross country program was picked second in the preseason ratings for the AAC. Winning the 2007 championship and finishing 2nd in 2006, the Lions look to get back to the top of the conference in 2009. The team received votes in the national ranking, but did not reach the Top 25.
Leading the way will be senior and 2007 AAC Runner-up Daniel Goetz. Expected to contribute will be junior and three-time NAIA All-American Josh Bradley, junior Zach Buffington, and sophomore Bryson Harper. Buffington won the 2009 AAC Outdoor 5k title, while Harper was 2nd in the 1500 meter and 800 meter races at the same championship.
Juniors Hunter Hall and Colby Smith will be counted on this fall. Hall was the 2009 AAC Outdoor 3k Steeplechase champion, and finished 10th at last fall's cross country championship.
Four freshmen look to solidify the lineup for Bryan. Jake Bradley, Jason McLeod, Alex Stephens and Drew Thompson each had successful high school careers and look to build on those early successes.
"Our men are excited about the season and on paper we look like a pretty good team. However, we have to perform when it counts if we are going to meet our high expectations for the season. Milligan and Montreat return most of their lineups from last year and will make the top spot at our conference championship difficult," said Head Coach Rodney Stoker.
The Lions will open their season at the Cavalier Kickoff Classic on Saturday, September 5th, hosted by Montreat College in Black Mountain, NC. Montreat College will also host the conference championship on November 7th.
