The women's cross country program was picked third in the preseason ratings for the AAC. The Lions finished 6th in the 2008 Championship. Milligan and Montreat College are picked ahead of the ladies.

Leading the way for the Lions will be senior Bailey Payne. Returning sophomores Ericka Simpson and Alyssia Lindsay add experience to the roster after finishing 15th and 26th at last fall's championship. Four freshmen will play a big role in the success this fall with Catherine Anderson, Danae Gillespie, Liz Olsen and Julie White joining the program.
"Picked third was somewhat of a surprise for our program, after our sixth place from last fall. I think it shows we are doing the right things to be successful. We look forward to the challenge ahead, and will know more about these young ladies after we race," said Head Coach Rodney Stoker.
The women will open their season at the Cavalier Kickoff Classic on Saturday, September 5th, hosted by Montreat College in Black Mountain, NC. Montreat College will also play host for the conference championship on November 7th
