Louisville, KY - The Greater Louisville Sports Commission played host for the 2009 Louisville Cross Country Classic and saw sixty-seven teams compete on the E.P. Tom "Sawyer" State Park course. Bryan College finished 21st out of 38 teams in the men's "Gold" division race. The University of Louisville took the team honors, while Rend Lake Community College's Stephen Sambu was the individual champion.
Sophomore Bryson Harper (Pikeville, TN) led the Lions with a 54th place finish over the weekend when he covered the eight kilometer course in 25:16. Juniors Josh Bradley (Ringgold, GA) andZach Buffington (Ooltewah, TN) were 121st and 138th with times of 25:54 and 26:05 respectively. Senior Daniel Goetz (Chattanooga, TN) lined up for the first time this fall and went 26:16 (157th).
"Our athletes must do a better job of being aggressive early if they expect to be near the front when closing the last few kilometers. Daniel will be a difference-maker for us in seven weeks," commented Head Coach Rodney Stoker.
Freshman Jake Bradley (Ringgold, GA) was the final scoring athlete for Bryan, for the first time in his young career, when he finished 26:50 (217th). Finishing close was Junior Hunter Hall (Brentwood, TN) at 26:53 (221st).
"The race of the day went to the younger Bradley. He kept his composure and competed well. We'll be back in Louisville in three weeks and should compete at a higher level," said Coach Stoker.
The Lions will return to Louisville for the Southeastern Classic on October 24.
