The Lions hosted conference opponent Montreat College last night. The Lions played well, defeating the Cavaliers 4-1. The JV Lions defeated the JV Cavaliers 5-0, just before the varsity match-up.
Bryan scored two goals in the first half. The first goal came as Markus Oettig played a through ball to Reggie Parks. Parks then slotted the ball on the pitch past the keeper in the 26th minute. The second goal was scored by Harry Sherwood as he placed a penalty kick into the back of the net in the 30th minute. The Lions were awarded the free kick after Oettig was pushed in the back as he was trying to win a header off a throw-in.
The Cavaliers struck first in the second half, scoring in the 56th minute to cut into the Lions lead. However, the Lions scored again in the 65th minute. Sherwood played a through ball to Curt Hays on a free kick. Hays then crossed the ball on the pitch and Oettig blasted the ball into the goal. The Lions' final goal came in the 73rd minute off of a free kick. Tom Hemmings set up Hayden Lavo, who hit a beautiful shot that went past the outstretched hands of the keeper and into the back of the net.
The Lions improve to 7-6 overall and 4-2 in the conference. They wrap up regular season conference play on Saturday as they travel to Bluefield College. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30pm ET.
