Black Mountain, NC - The Bryan College women's cross country team finished as runner-up in the AAC Cross Country Championship when it competed on the five-kilometer layout on Montreat College's mountain campus. With its best finish in program history, the Lions also qualified three women for the NAIA Cross Country Championship in Vancouver, WA, on November 21. Milligan College won the women's title.
Ericka Simpson (Sophomore - Grayson, GA) grabbed AAC All-Conference honors with her 10th place finish in 20:42 and secured a individual birth into the National Championship. Joining her in Vancouver will be AAC All-Freshman honoree Liz Olsen (Glenville, NY) and Sophomore Alyssia Lindsay (Spring City, TN) who crossed the line in 11th and 12th respectively. Senior Bailey Payne (Pikeville, TN) and Catherine Anderson (Freshman - Maple Grove, MN) completed the scoring for the Lions as they finished 15th and 18th respectively.
"The ladies ran impressively today, and to finish as the runner-up in the Conference shows that we are headed in the right direction with the program. I'm excited for our three girls that earned their spot at Nationals. It is a little bittersweet for Bailey, as she is our lone senior and just missed qualifying," commented Head Coach Rodney Stoker.
The women will travel to Vancouver, WA, to compete in the 30th NAIA Cross Country Championship on November 21.
