Bryan College's Senior MB Amber Smith was honored as the Appalachian Athletic Conference Player of the Week for guiding the Lady Lions to a share of their first regular-season championship.  The honor is her fourth this season.  Smith was the lone bright spot in the Lions' non-conference loss at Birmingham Southern College on Wednesday, finishing with 10 kills (.333 hitting percentage).  She followed that performance with two 11-kill efforts in Bryan's 3-1 victory over Montreat, and their 3-0 sweep of Milligan on Saturday to clinch a share of the conference title.  Smith led the Lions' blocking core over the weekend, tallying 3 solo and 7 assisted blocks in the two Lion victories.  Smith finished the regular season ranked #9 in the NAIA in blocks per game, and is the #1-ranked blocker in the NCCAA and the Appalachian Athletic Conference as well.

"This is a special way for a senior to close her final matches on her home court," commented Bryan's Head Coach Leo Sayles, "Amber has been focused throughout the entire season, and her contributions have carried us. "

The Lions (15-1 conference, 23-13 overall) will open AAC tournament play vs. #8-seed Bluefield College in Kingsport, TN, on Tuesday at 5:00pm ET.
