The #3 Lady Lions played against the #2 Lady Buffaloes of Milligan College in the semifinals of the conference tournament. The tournament is being held at Union College. The Lady Lions outscored the Lady Buffaloes in the shootout to advance them to the championship game.
The score after regulation was 0-0. After two overtimes, both teams were still scoreless. They each had chances, but were unable to put the ball into the back of the net. After sudden death overtime ends the teams must go to a shootout to determine who will advance.
The teams rotate five shooters that they have selected one at a time. Bryan shot first. Stacy Tatum stepped up and buried her shot. Milligan's first shooter then scored. Kathryn DeRhodes then placed her shot into the back of the net. Milligan's second shooter shot, but Bryan's goalkeeper Kara Nissley dove to her left and blocked the goal. After two attempts from each team, the Lady Lions were leading 2-1. Jenn McCue came up next and found the back of the net. Milligan's third shooter also scored. Lauren Bowling placed her shot into the back of the net. Milligan's shooter found the net as well. After four attempts, the Lady Lions were leading 4-3. Carli Milligan was Bryan's final shooter. She shot the ball into the net, and the Lady Lions began celebrating.
"We worked hard to put ourselves in a position to win, and I had confidence in my penalty shooters," commented Bryan Head Coach Mark Sauve.
This will be the Lady Lions first time to advance to the AAC Championship. They will take on #1 Union College tomorrow at Union at 2:00pm ET.
