The #2 Lions defeated the #4 Cavaliers of Montreat College in the AAC Tournament Championship. The score was 1-1 at the end of regulation. The Lions scored in overtime to win the Championship and advance to the National Tournament.
The Lions struck first, scoring in the 65th minute. Reggie Parks trapped a corner kick and laid the ball back to Bennie Bardales, who placed the ball past the keeper. Montreat's Shaka Bangura equalized the score just three and a half minutes later on a break-away. In overtime, the Lions scored in the 98th minute. Bennie Bardales played a through ball to Tom Hemmings who blasted the ball past the keeper and into the net.
Both teams played tough games the night before and you could see it in the players. The teams had to dig deep to gut it out. The Lions played a total of 18 players.
Bryan outshot Montreat 19-10, 7-2 on goal.
The Lions are now 11-7 overall. They will play again next Saturday, November 21, in the National Tournament. The time, place and opponent will be announced on Sunday.
