The Lions traveled to Marietta, GA, on Saturday to take on the Hornets of Southern Polytechnic State University for the 2009 NAIA Men's Soccer National Championship Opening Round. The Lions lost 0-1 to the Hornets, who finished the regular season ranked #4 in the nation.
Bryan came out on the attack at the start of the game, putting Southern Poly on their heels. After a few minutes, the Hornets settled down and began to attack some offensively. The Hornets were awarded a penalty kick about midway through the half. Bryan Goalkeeper Rodrigo Pigatto came up with a huge diving save. However, with about 15 minutes left in the half, Southern Poly scored to give themselves a 1-0 lead.
In the second half, the Lions attacked the Hornets over and over again. Southern Poly packed in the defense by putting all 10 men behind the ball. Bryan created several opportunities throughout the half, but were unable to find the back of the net to equalize the score.
The Lions finished the season strong, winning the AAC Tournament and making it to the NAIA National Tournament. They finish with a record of 11-8.
