The Lions hosted the Bluefield College Rams on Saturday. Bryan was standing at the top of the conference coming into the game. Bluefield is the reigning AAC regular season champions. The Lions took control early in the game to defeat the Rams 58-39. 

The Lions jumped out to an early lead on the Rams. They built their largest lead of the half to 23-11. Bryan went into the locker room at halftime leading 30-24. In the second half, the Lions continued to dominate, building their largest lead to 58-36 before the Rams hit a 3-pointer to close the game.

The Rams came into the game averaging 72 points per game. However, the Lions' defense, which is ranked #1 in the conference, held them to just 39 points on just 27.4% shooting from the floor. The Lions, who are also #1 in the conference in rebounding, outrebounded their opponents 41-31. They held Bluefield's Omar Reed, who leads the conference in rebounding, to just 3 boards.

The Lions hit 9 free-throws while the Rams only shot 3 for the game.

Scott Newton led the Lions in scoring with 19 points. Xavierian McCall added 12 points. Astral Guerrier finished with his 8th double-double of the season, scoring 11 points while grabbing 13 rebounds.

Rob Wright led Bluefield with 12 points. He was the only Ram to score in double digits.

The Lions are now 13-5 overall and 6-1 in the conference. They play again on Wednesday against conference opponent UVA-Wise. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30pm ET.
