The Lions hosted the Bulldogs of Union College last night. Bryan got down early and were never able to come back, losing 49-59.
In the first half, Union jumped out to a 20-8 lead. The Lions went into the locker room at half time down 26-35. Union's Curtis Stephens had the hot hand, scoring 17 points in the half while the team shot 55.2% from the floor. Scott Newton scored 10 points in the half to keep the Lions in the game. The Lions settled down in the second half, holding the Bulldogs to just 32%, but were outscored 24-23.
Both teams hit 7 free throws. The Lions outrebounded the Bulldogs 33-32. The difference in the game came from beyond the arc, as the Bulldogs hit four 3-pointers while the Lions missed all of their attempts.
The Lions were led in scoring by Scott Newton, who had 16 points and 6 rebounds. Astral Guerrier finished with 12 points and 8 rebounds. Derek Batt added 8 points.
Union's Curtis Stephens finished the game with 27 points.
The Lions are now 13-8 overall and 6-4 in the AAC. They play again on Saturday in a non-conference match at home against Covenant College. Tipoff is scheduled for 4:00pm ET.
